Framing Opportunities That Close

SWOT done right, ROI that doesn't lie, and dependency mapping. Plus: why quick wins are almost always undervalued.

The 3-bucket taxonomy
Every opportunity lives in exactly one of three buckets. Miscategorize and everything downstream breaks.
01
Quick Win — 2–12 weeks, <$25K, high visibility. Fund trust and budget. Don't let them absorb your whole quarter.
02
Strategic — 3–12 months, material EBITDA impact. The bets that make or break the thesis.
03
Foundational — unsexy plumbing that unblocks everything else. Often underestimated. Data infra, security, compliance.
Key idea
Quick wins are leverage, not compromise
Junior operators dismiss quick wins as "low impact." Wrong frame. Quick wins fund the budget for strategic bets, build trust with the CEO, and generate proof points for the partner. A Year-1 engagement without 3–5 shipped quick wins almost always fails.
The Experience Bridge
Map this concept back to what you already know
In your past role
In any role where you've prioritized projects, you used some version of value × probability × fit. Each project had a clear deliverable and a clear question it answered.
At Red Iron Group
Opportunities prioritize on EBITDA impact × feasibility × thesis alignment. Same prioritization math, different variables. The ROI calculator in ValueDriverOS is the same prioritization framework you already know, with PE inputs.
Why the skill transfers
If you've ever said "this is lower priority because the business question is weaker," you already know how to do PE opportunity grading. Just swap "business question" for "investment thesis."

Q2. Same opportunity, but invoice generation depends on fixing a broken ERP data sync that's been on the IT backlog for 18 months. Now what?
Q3. Which ROI case do you put in your partner update?
